Ether is good too, and it does actually have more slots where you can utilize ether weapons than gravity, so there's a possibility there too.
My recommendation is to just get as many gravity weapons as you can equipped, farm some with favorable stats I have a 15k damage gravity weapon that has not one, but two gravity damage increases on it and then load up 3 of the gravity damage up augments onto the skell frame and Try some tyrants and see what sort of damage output you're doing vs ether or some other damage type.
I don't think I ever keep the same build for very long. I'm always tweaking and customizing my skells according to what I'm doing. It means a lot of swapping augments and weapons around, but it keeps things fresh I guess.
Buster-Launcher is one of my favorites as well. I would run around with that and an E-Scythe before getting Ares 90 and it was great. I appreciate you typing all that.

I'm guessing the last one reflects damage taken back to the enemy, so if used at the right time it's probably pretty devastating. Yeah, the problem with this is by the time you grind everything for the best gear, there's nothing that gear is needed for since you would be able to kill everything in the game prior to that awesome stuff.
The Excavator is a nice choice for AI since it is decently tough, and also very, very easy to make. Currently using it myself while gathering mats for the Ares and other 60's.
All the others are weak and pointless to begin with but you won't be able to get the parts to make them surpass the Ares 90 without actually using the Ares It's pretty frustrating that the Ares will tend to last the longest due to how ridiculously inflated its evasion and potential stats are, but eh.
Lailah is probably the best for your requirments and Lailah Queen is probably the sexiest skell in the game according to me, which is a nice bonus.
Just look at the Lailah's bonuses on that linked reddit page, it has everything you are looking for, no? I don't know if it has everything I want since skells can typically do more than just what you get right out of the box.
Though the OD is appealing, OD is only useful to me when it's active so I don't want to think of it as a bonus rather than a feature.

Now it's time to figure out how to work it. Before anyone can use a Skell, you must register it to a character. Just select Barracks Hangar at the Terminal, then select the Skell you want.
The frame is the main part of the Skell and what you need to register to a character. You can buy other frames starting at level Other frames unlock as you get through the story or invest in manufacturers.
Once you pick a frame, you can equip the parts. There are 15 individual parts you can equip. Don't get overwhelmed, because 8 of these determine the Arts you get.
Your ground character's Arts don't matter when you use a Skell since it has its own arts. Skells don't have Skills, but they can benefit from your Class Skills.
For example, if you have Beam damage increase, your Skell can get that increase when using Beam damage. Skell have separate battle stats from ground characters.
You can tell by looking at the type of gear your ground character can wear. Skell wear has different abilities than the other types.
